Columbia Bands is a non-profit community organization that gives non-professional musicians the opportunity to rehearse and perform challenging band literature while educating and entertaining the public in Howard County and other Maryland communities.
Michael Blackman directs the Columbia Concert Band and Pete BarenBregge directs the Columbia Jazz Band. Both groups rehearse year-round on Monday evenings and play a variety of styles within their respective genres.
Participation in music ensembles and related activities is open to all. Qualifications for membership include interest and cooperation in organizational activities along with musical instrument proficiency. Members participate in band activities on a voluntary basis; however, small annual dues and donations are collected to help fund ongoing organizational expenses.
Donating to Columbia Bands will help us provide our fans and the public with more great performances, and will support the arts as a whole. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity, which means your donation is tax-deductible. Receipts are available upon request.

The Columbia Concert Band rehearses Monday nights at River Hill High School in Clarksville, Maryland from 7:30 to 9:30. The ensemble performs contemporary and traditional band music at three school-year concerts and usually two outdoor summer concerts. The Columbia Concert Band is directed by Michael Blackman.

The Columbia Jazz Band rehearses Monday nights at River Hill High School in Clarksville, Maryland from 6:15 to 7:25. The ensemble performs contemporary and traditional swing, Latin, and other jazz styles at public and private venues and events throughout the year. The Columbia Jazz Band is directed by Peter Barenbregge.
